Troubleshooting Tips
Having trouble with your HelpAlert device? Here are common problems and quick fixes:
Device will not turn on
Place the device on charge using the original HelpAlert charger. Other chargers may not give enough power.
Make sure the charging pins on the back of the alarm and on the charger are clean and lined up. Wipe gently with a dry cloth if needed.
Leave it on charge for at least 2–3 hours the first time, or overnight if the battery is fully drained.
If the device still does not switch on, hold down the main button for 10 seconds after charging to restart it
Alarm does not trigger
Press and hold the alarm button for 2–3 seconds until you see the light flash or feel a vibration.
If nothing happens, make sure the device has signal by checking the bars on the screen or the light indicator.
Some alarms only work when worn properly. Ensure it is snug on the wrist or around the neck.
Test again after charging fully. If still not working, contact us for a manual test with our team.
If the alarm connects but you cannot hear us
Check you have mobile signal or that your base unit is plugged into power (for home alarms).
Move to an area with stronger signal and test again.
Poor signal is the most common cause. If you still cannot hear us, please call our support team on 01273 055049 so we can run a live test with you.
False alarms
Some devices may trigger if dropped onto a hard surface. Try to avoid taking it off in the kitchen or bathroom.
If you have frequent false alarms, contact us. We can check the sensitivity settings and guide you through adjusting them.
Still having problems? Call our support line on 01273 055049. We can run live tests with you while the device is in your hand.
How to charge your device
Use only the charger we supplied. Other chargers can damage the battery.
Place the device carefully into its charging cradle. You should see a light appear or hear a tone.
Charge the alarm every night, just like a mobile phone. This ensures it is ready to protect you the next day.
Signs the battery needs replacing
The device does not last a full day even after an overnight charge.
The low battery warning appears more often than normal.
Charging feels unreliable, for example the light flickers or the alarm powers off suddenly.
Battery life and safety tips
Always charge in a dry area. Keep away from sinks or showers.
Do not cover the charger with clothing or bedding as it may overheat.
If you have limited movement, place the charger in a safe, easy-to-reach place, such as by your bed or favourite chair.
What happens when your alarm is activated:
1. You press the alarm button or the fall detector senses a sudden impact.
2. The device connects to our UK-based response centre within seconds.
3. One of our trained operators speaks to you through the alarm. They will always ask: “Are you okay? Do you need help?”
4. If you can talk, tell us what happened. We can call a family member, neighbour, or 999 depending on what you need.
5. If you cannot speak, we still act. We check your location and contact your emergency contacts straight away. If it looks serious, we send the ambulance service immediately.
6. We stay on the line with you until help arrives. You are never left alone.
How to update your contacts
Call or email our team any time your emergency contacts change.
We will update the details right away and confirm back to you so you know it is done.
Extra safety tips at home
Keep walkways clear of rugs, wires, or clutter. These are the most common causes of trips.
Install night lights in bedrooms, hallways, and bathrooms so you can see if you get up in the night.
Wear flat shoes or slippers with grip, socks alone are slippery on most floors.
If you use a walking aid, always keep it close at hand. Many falls happen when reaching for support.
Place the HelpAlert alarm on before standing up, even just to go into another room.
Battery & Charging
Daily charging keeps your device working 24/7. Learn how to spot low battery signs and charge safely.
